Sumner High School's Freshman Academy is an innovative approach to helping students with the difficult transition from middle school to high school. Upon entering high school, every freshman is assigned to a team and they are given a student mentor (SPURS member). The teachers in the Freshman Academy meet daily to discuss student progress, achievement, and concerns. This approach allows the faculty to keep a close watch over any trends that might indicate a student having trouble. It also allows us to recognize the positive influence and leadership qualities of exemplary students.
