Icebreaker:
Wish Upon a Star Let's wish upon a
star. You can wish for anything, but make sure you tell us about
yourself. Save the "Wish Upon a Star" PowerPoint on the U Drive
in your folder.
Make sure you fill in all the boxes. Print one copy on yellow cardstock
then cut out your star. The teacher will start the music and you will
roam the classroom exchanging stars with your classmates. When the music
stops, return to your seat with a "Shining Star". When it is your turn
you will introduce that "Shining Star" to the class.

Estimation
Station - Every morning you will
have an estimation activity. At the end
of the day 2 people will be responsible for counting the items and
telling the class the results.
Estimating Jar Activity (PDF)
Today's estimation is "A Burst of Fractions".
Write your estimation of the number of Starbursts on the back of a
sticky note, put your name on the front and then stick it on the poster.
We will use the Selector Tool to select two people to count the
starburst and give us the results. Those two people will also tell us
the fraction of each color of Starburst. |

PowerPoint
Pals - Using PowerPoint has become
routine for most teachers as well as students.
PowerPoint is one of the most effective weapons to kill creative
thinking, distract attention and bore people to
death. So let's
teach an old dog new tricks. Our SMART Board software will help us do
that. The PowerPoints we are using were taken from
Pete's PowerPoint Station.

SMART
Calendar - The best way to teach the
calendar to students is to give them their own calendar. Age appropriate
students can mark special events on their calendar while younger
students can circle, draw, and color in parts of the calendar. Here you
will find things to do with your classroom calendar.

Bookmaking
Bonanza - Paper Doll book

To make this book you will fold a piece of construction paper into 8
equal parts. 2/8ths will be cut off and used for the arms. Add paper
behind the jacket. Use art supplies to add facial features and details
to the clothing. The pictures I used in the example above came from PC
Hug Club.

Instant Poetry
Forms - (Interactive Poetry Forms, Memory, I Remember...)
This is a interactive website
that allows you to put in words and it generates a poem for you. There
are several types of poems to choose from. The students simply "Type" in a
type of word the computer suggests and click "Create" and the poem is
generated. Students can then copy and paste the poem into a word
document, decorate, then print. It is a very easy way to bring poetry
into the classroom.

Homework
- Read the article
"Integrated education works best when it is well planned,
well-integrated, closely monitored as to effectiveness, and given a fair
chance. 'A fair chance' only can be guaranteed, however, if
computer-based teaching and learning is constructed on these ten pillars
of success."
