LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS - Applications are in the counselors’ office. All applications for local scholarships MUST BE RETURNED TO THE COUNSELORS BY TUESDAY, APRIL 24, 2007. American Legion Auxiliary Unit #47 Scholarship - Applicant must have minimum GPA of 3.0, minimum ACT of 20, financial need, and attend Southeastern Louisiana University. Applications are in the guidance office. Turn it in to your counselor. Brittany Landaiche Memorial Foundation – Seniors must be enrolling as a full time student in an approved secondary educational system, have at least a 2.0 GPA and exemplify the qualities and values demonstrated by Brittany Landaiche and promoted and upheld by the Brittany Landaiche Memorial Foundation. Turn it in to your counselor. Charlie Landry Memorial Scholarship - Must be a varsity letterman with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and minimum ACT of 20, financial need, attend a 4 year university. Turn it in to your counselor. Claude E. Fowler, Jr. Memorial Scholarship - Criteria - 2.5 GPA, minimum ACT: 20, financial need, etc. Applications are in the guidance office. Turn it to your counselor. Gerry Vineyard Memorial Award – Student must have been enrolled in the special education program or was a homebound student at some point during his or her high school career. See the application for other requirements. Turn it in to your counselor. Interact Club Senior Scholarship - Must be an "active" member of the Interact Club for two or more years, GPA of 2.5. Applications are in the guidance office. Turn it in to your counselor.
Kyle Peltier Memorial Scholarship - Established in 2004 in memory of Kyle Blue Peltier, a graduate of PHS who epitomized the spirit of generosity and community involvement throughout his life. Must have at least a minimum GPA of 2.5, true financial need, and be enrolling as a full time college student for the fall of 2007. See application for more eligibility requirements. Turn it in to your counselor. Phillip Bourgere Memorial Scholarship - Must have minimum GPA 3.0, ACT 20, participation in school activities, financial need, attend SLU. Turn it in to your counselor. Ponchatoula High Parent Teacher Student Association Scholarship – Established in 2007. The PTSA Scholarship is a one time $250.00 award. The recipient must have a parent or student membership in PTSA for the senior year, must meet minimum ACT of 20 or TOPS or TOPS Tech regulations, The senior must also have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 and must be attending a LA post Secondary Facility. Character, participation in school and community activities are also considered. Turn it in to your counselor. Ponchatoula Kiwanis Club's John B. Harris Memorial Scholarship - Must have an overall GPA of 3.0, minimum ACT: 20, and financial need. The applications are in the guidance office. Turn it in to your counselor. Rotary Mathematics Award - Criteria and applications are available in the counselors’ office. Must have had 4 units of math (not including Business Math or Int. to Algebra and Geometry) and Physics and Chemistry and a 2.7 in academic subjects. Turn it in to your counselor. FAFSA deadline is July 1. It must be received by July 1. Any senior planning to attend college or vocational school needs to fill this out. This is the form needed to file for financial aid, loans, and state scholarships INCLUDING "TOPS".
AEMP Foundation Scholarship Attention Seniors: AEMP Foundation is sponsoring scholarships to all seniors wishing to pursue a career in the heavy equipment industry. All students interested that have a 2.0 GPA, are motivated, responsible and have a strong capacity for achievement are eligible. The applications are in the counselor’s office or you can go online at www.aemp.org. Deadline to apply is May 1st. AYN RAND Essay Contests Ayn Rand essay contests information is in the counselors’ office. There is over $81,000 in prize money available for first through fifth places in each category. This contest is open to 9th through 12th graders. The ninth and tenth grade essays are due by March 20, 2010, and the eleventh and twelfth grade essays are due April 26, 2010. Free Enterprise Week 2010 – Nicholls State University Nicholls State University is proud to announce the Free Enterprise Week 2010 Program. Participation in this free program affords high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to increase their knowledge and understanding of our free enterprise system and general business practices in a fun and interactive learning environment. Two participants will receive $500 scholarships. If you are interested in this opportunity, please let your guidance counselor know. Friends of the Art Station Scholarship The Friends of the Art Station is offering a $250 scholarship for seniors planning on attending Southeastern University. Applications are in the counselor’s office. The deadline to apply is April 15th.
Grambling State University Summer High Ability Program The High Ability Program at Grambling State University is an enrichment program for high school juniors who have exemplified outstanding academic standards. Participants can earn up to six college credit hours. The program will be held June 26 – July 28. Applications are in the counselors’ office. The deadline to apply is April 16. Harvey L. Foster Foundation Scholarships The Harvey L. Foster Foundation for Science Education has the mission to award the ambition of our future science leaders of tomorrow with college tuition today. If you are a senior and planning on majoring in Science at college, you need to find out more information about these scholarships. Both scholarships provide up to an $8,000 award. The 2010 EBS Pearl River Studies Scholarship is specifically for students who plan to declare science as a degree at Southeastern Louisiana University. The Harvey L. Foster Foundation Scholarship is not restricted to Southeastern. See the folder in the counselor’s office for more information regarding the eligibility requirements, as well as to pick up an application. Applications are due in their office by March 15. Home Depot Scholarship The Home Depot has made more than $1 million in funding available for its 2010 Pro Grade Scholarship Program to support students attending professional building and construction trade schools. Scholarship applications will be accepted through April 30 at homedepot.com/trade-scholarship. Horatio Alger Association Scholarship Programs The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc seeks to assist students who have demonstrated integrity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need, a good academic record, commitment to pursue a college education, and a desire to contribute to society. Iris-Samuel Rothman Scholarship LENS @ Wake Forest Summer Program Wake Forest is offering a summer program called LENS - Learn, Experience, Navigate and Solve. This year’s focus will be confronting the challenge of sustainability. All juniors and seniors are eligible to apply. Go to www.wfu.edu/lens for more information and to apply. Local Scholarships Attention seniors: You should have all received a copy of the Senior Bulletin in your English class. If you haven’t done so, you NEED to read it and determine which scholarships you qualify for and go by the Counselor’s office and get your application. All local scholarships will be in the front of the file drawer in alphabetical order. The deadline for most of the scholarships is April 9th, so don’t wait until it’s too late! Louisiana Girls Leadership Academy (LGLA) “Light the Torch and Lead” is the theme for the Nicholls State University’s Louisiana Girls Leadership Academy scheduled for June 13-16. Jenna Bush Hager will be the keynote speaker. This program encourages and promotes the leadership of women. All female students are asked to notify your counselor if you wish to be considered for this opportunity by tomorrow, March 19th. Deadline to apply is Monday, March 22. Louisiana Sheriff’s Scholarship Program The Louisiana Sheriff’s Scholarship Program will award scholarships providing assistance to worthy Louisiana students in furthering their education and training with resources made available through the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Membership Program. A Scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a graduating high school student from Tangipahoa parish. All applicants must be eligible for admission to the college/university indicated on the application. See the folder in the counselor’s office for more information. The deadline for the application to be submitted is April 1. LSU- Manship School of Mass Communication Summer Opportunity The Louisiana Scholastic Journalism Institute at the Manship School of Mass Communication at LSU allows rising sophomores, juniors and seniors the chance to live on campus, study with LSU instructors, and sample college life. LSFA’s “Safer” Tuition Reimbursement Grant Website Did you know that by choosing to serve your community and signing up to become a volunteer fireman after graduation, you are eligible to apply for college tuition reimbursement of up to $8,000 for a 2-year degree or $16,000 for a 4-year degree? LSU Global Studies Residential College Seniors who are attending LSU in the fall may want to consider participating in the Global Studies Residential College. When possible, American and international students will be paired as roommates as part of the experience to help you learn more in a multinational, multicultural environment. LSU REHAMS and XCITE Pre-College Programs The LSU College of Engineering Office of Diversity Programs in the College of Engineering is proud to announce the 2010 Pre-College Summer Programs for 9th thru 11th graders. REHAMS, Recruitment in Engineering of High-Ability Multicultural Students, is a one-week residential program offering academically talented minority students the opportunity to examine first-hand the activities and thought processes characteristics of engineering. All students must be entering the 10th or 11th grade for the 2010-2011 school year. XCITE, Exploration Camp for Inspiring Tomorrow’s Engineers, is also a one-week residential program designed to introduce promising female high-school students to LSU and the field of engineering. Students accepted into XCITE must be entering the 9th or 10th grade for the 2010-2011 school year. For more information, see the folder in the counselor’s office. Louisiana State University Summer Scholars Program The University College at LSU is now accepting application for this year’s Summer Scholars Program for under-represented minority students and already be admitted to LSU. Students must be able to attend the program for the entire eight weeks summer session. A flyer is posted outside the counselor’s office. Visit www.lsu.edu/ssp for more information. Louisiana State University Spring Invitational ProgramAnnounced: December 17 & January 12 LSU has scheduled their spring invitational program for April 14, 15, & 16. The initial batch of invitations will be mailed the 2nd week of January. Only seniors who meet the eligibility criteria and have had their SAT or ACT scores sent to LSU will be included. The initial students invited will have until March 5 to respond. The results of the February ACT or transcript may make additional students eligible. Those seniors will also be invited and will have to respond by March 5th as well. If space allows, additional students will be invited after March 5th and they will have until April 2nd to respond. Louisiana State University Saturday Tour Louisiana State University invites you to participate in a walking tour of the LSU Campus and Residential Life on Saturday, January 16 and March 20. Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps The Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Program was established to educate and train qualified young men and women for service as commissioned officer in the unrestricted line Naval Reserve or Marine Corps Reserve. The NROTC Scholarship Program plays an important role in preparing mature young men and women for leadership and management positions in an increasingly technical Navy and Marine Corps. Recipients of the Scholarship receive full tuition, books stipend, educational fees and other financial benefits at many of the country’s leading colleges and universities. Navy ROTC Scholarships The 2010 Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) scholarship program will begin this April and end January 2011. Any interested junior or senior may apply. New York University – Study Abroad Attention seniors: If you are interested in possibly studying abroad next year, you may want to consider New York University. New York University Diversity Initiatives If you are interested in New York University, you may want to research the Financial Aid and Diversity Scholarships they have available. North Oaks Health System’s Junior Volunteer Program North Oaks offers young people, ages 14 through 17, an opportunity for community service and career exploration. Through their Junior Volunteer program, the students selected will be able to share their time and talents throughout the summer and even into the school year, too. If you can give a minimum of 50 hours during the summer and meet the age requirements, please call North Oaks Health System for an application. See the flyer outside the counselor’s office for more information North Oaks School of Radiologic Technology Information regarding the North Oaks School of Radiologic Technology is available in the counselor’s office. The program is part of a strong health care system dedicated to excellent patient care and quality. It is 24 months of intense training that includes 40 hours a week of classroom studies and clinical experience. If you are interested in pursuing a career in radiology, you will want to look at their catalog. Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding Workforce Training and Development Scholarship Program Attention seniors: If you are planning on entering an accredited Community or Technical College in Louisiana, you will want to apply for the Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding Scholarship. See the file in the counselor’s office for applications and for more information. The deadline to apply is April 16. Northwestern State University ADVANCE Program for Young Scholars Northwestern State University’s Advance Program for Young Scholars summer session will be held June 6 – 26. Northwestern State University Freshman Connection 2010 Northwestern State University is hosting several Freshman Connections 2010 for new students. This will give you an opportunity to be introduced to the academic programs and services, meet campus administrators, learn more about campus life, and meet future classmates. Ponchatoula Lions Club Scholarship The Ponchatoula Lions Club Scholarship applications are in the counselors’ office. To be eligible, seniors must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be enrolling at Southeastern Louisiana University as a full time in a 4-year curriculum student by the fall of 2010. Our Lady of the Lake College Open House Attention seniors – Are you interested in pursuing a career in health sciences? Do you have a GPA of at least 3.0? Our Lady of the Lake College is currently accepting nominations for the Board of Trustees Opportunity Scholarship of $500 per semester for 8 semesters. Please notify your counselor if you are planning on attending Our Lady of the Lake College and wish to be considered for this scholarship opportunity. Southeastern Louisiana University Community Counseling Center Southeastern University’s Community Counseling Center is offering counseling at a reduced rate. SLU Upward Bound Program Information about SLU’s Upward Bound Program is in the counselors’ office. Upward Bound is a program designed to assist students in successfully making the transition from high school to a college education. Ninth and tenth grade students are eligible. See the folder in the counselors’ office for info on applying. Student Insights Scholarship Program Student Insights has a Student-View Scholarship program available to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior college or career school. To apply, log on to www.student-view.com to complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in our area. The deadline is April 22. 2010 Talented Teen Scholarship Pageant Miss Black Louisiana is sponsoring the 2010 Talented Teen Scholarship Pageant. The application deadline is May 28, 2010. For a list of the qualifications, see the folder in the counselor’s office. 13th Annual Bill of Rights Essay Contest The National Foundation for Women Legislators and the National Rifle Association are sponsoring the 13th Annual nationwide Bill of Rights Essay Contest. The focus this year will be on the Bill of Rights as shown through the civic virtues of the millennial generation. The contest is open to all junior and senior females. Winners will receive $3,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to NFWL’s 2010 Annual Conference. The deadline for submission is Friday, July 30. Tangipahoa Volunteers for Family and Community Scholarship The Tangipahoa Volunteers for Family and Community Education (TVFC) scholarship applications are in the counselors’ office. To be eligible, a senior must have been a member in good standing of FCCLA, FFA, 4-H, or have a relative who is either a current or former member of a TVFC Chapter. The student must plan to attend any Louisiana College or University, and have an outstanding ability for scholarship, leadership, and character in school and community. The deadline is Thursday, April 15. Pick up your application today if you qualify.
United States Military Academy Summer Leaders Seminar The United States Military Service Academy will host the 2010 Summer Leaders Seminar May 29 - June 4 and June 5 - 11 for juniors. UNO-EES Minority Awareness Geoscience Program The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at UNO is offering an opportunity for minority students to participate in two summer geoscience field trips as part of the UNO-EES Minority Awareness Geoscience Program. There will be two trips, 1 13-day trip to Utah for grades 11 & 12 and an 8-day trip in Louisiana for grades 10-12. All highly motivated students who are interested in earth science and enjoy exploring their natural world should apply. Applicants should be African American, Native American, or Latino. All application materials and information are found at www.ees.uno.edu/map. The deadline to apply is April 5.
