Mission Statement Tangipahoa Parish School District is committed to the goal of all children reading on or above grade level by the end of third grade. Philosophy Our purpose is to facilitate comprehensive and systematic instruction in the five essential components of effective reading instruction (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension) as supported by scientifically based reading research. We are committed to the early and ongoing identification of students who are reading below grade level expectations, and educating these students, using strategic and intensive programs that will meet prescriptive needs. Our expectation is to improve teacher knowledge and behaviors through on-going, high quality professional development, and in turn, affect significant improvement in students’ reading achievement. |
