Abbott & Fenner Business Consultants are pleased to be able to continue with their scholarship program for the 6th year. They will be awarding up to $1,000 to the winners each year. Dollars and $ense Investment Education & Scholarship Program

The Association of 100 Black Men of Metropolitan Baton Rouge is announcing their 2013 Dollars and $ense Investment Education & Scholarship Program. This program allows African-American high school seniors with a minimum 2.5 GPA to participate in a comprehensive financial literacy curriculum that will give them expert advice on college planning and financing strategies. It will teach you how to budget, save and grow money faster through investing in stocks, bonds and mutual funds. The program is open to all eligible applicants, but those having an interest in how money works and /or entrepreneurship may really benefit. Emory Pre-College Program

Emory University, located in Atlanta, Georgia, offers a pre-college program in the summer for students who will be junior or seniors in the fall. There are 2-six week schedules that will allow college credit and 3-two week schedules for non-credit courses. Apply online at www.precollege.emory.edu.

Seniors: Don’t forget to complete the FAFSA to apply for financial aid. This will automatically enroll you for TOPS if you are eligible. The website for FAFSA is www.fafsa.ed.gov. The deadline is June 30th!

Grambling State University Summer High Ability Program

The High Ability Program at Grambling State University is an enrichment program for high school juniors who have exemplified outstanding academic standards. Participants can earn up to six college credit hours and complete a science project. Visit their website to apply. The deadline is April 30th.
Grief Counseling Support Group

The Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home offers a grief support group meeting every 4th Thursday evening at 6 pm. These meetings are conducted by a Grief Counselor and are free of charge and open to all grieving members of our community. The meetings take place at their Hammond location which is 12012 Highway 190 West.
LASFAA Scholarships

The Louisiana Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, better known as LASFAA, will award at least 4-$500 scholarships to Louisiana students who are planning to attend institutions in the State! You must complete the online application at www.lasfaa.org/docs/toc_students.html and be enrolled full-time in a program that leads to a college degree or certificate. The College/University must be a member of LASFAA. All eligible recipients will be chosen by random selection. Only one entry per person is allowed. The deadline to submit your application is Tuesday, April 30th, so apply today!
Lela Scholarship Opportunities

Le Sanctuary Book Club Scholarship

Le Sanctuary Book Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to reading the page-turning works of diverse writers and literary giants, as well as serving the community through various activities and events. They are currently accepting applications for their scholarship that the club is offering in our area. Louisiana Lions Camp Junior Counselor Employment
Announced: January 23, February 19 & March 18
The Louisiana Lions Camp is currently recruiting high school students, ages 16 and above to fill summer staff positions. There are Junior Counselor positions available for 16 and 17 year-old students. Students age 18 and above may apply for Senior Counselor and Activity Instructor positions, and those with current certifications may apply for Lifeguard positions. The camp runs seven weeks starting the second week of June. Graduating seniors may also apply for one of ten $500 and one of four $1000 scholarships which are awarded at the end of the season.

Summer Employment with the Girl Scouts

Xavier’s Contingent Admit Program to Pharmacy School

Exceptional high school seniors considering a career in pharmacy now have a unique opportunity to get a leg up on their professional education through a new program being offered by Xavier University. Under Xavier’s new Contingent Admit Program students can apply for admission into the College of Pharmacy as high school seniors! Those who qualify and are accepted into the program will be guaranteed a seat in the professional pharmacy program if they satisfactorily complete all of the pre-requisite courses in two years. Xavier is the only college in the state and one of a handful nationwide that offers this option. To be considered for contingent admission, high school students must have a minimum composite ACT score of 23 and a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 in a college preparatory curriculum.
