On Friday, August 23rd, two special visitors arrived at Independence Elementary. Fisherman Fred and Fisherman Red, who were recently back from their trip to Hawaii, met with the students at IES to discuss the FISH Philosophy expectations. Fred (Principal, Lisa Raiford) and Red (Admin. Asst., Melanie Johnston) visit IES at the start of every school year to teach the students the 4 expectations be there, participate, choose a positive attitude, and make someone’s day. Since the island theme will continue throughout the year, the students learned about the “BIG KAHUNA”trophy that can be won each week by a class who is nominated for this prestigious award. Students also learned how to become a “BIG KAHUNA FISH”, how to hula and the hand movements for hang ten as they enjoyed these exciting visitors. Pictured above Fisherman Fred poses with Armoni White, a 2nd grade student in Mrs. Dawn SaBerre’s class.
Thanks to a grant from Entergy and donation of services from Shademakers Landscaping from Roseland, Roseland Montessori has a beautiful new sign at the side entrance. Now the school can be identified from the street. Thank you Entergy and Shademakers.
