"You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives."

  • "Remembering the Holocaust"

The 6th grade students at Champ Cooper have been studying the Holocaust in their Social Studies and Reading class.  On April 25, 2013 all of the 6th grade students participated in a Video Conference, "Children of the Holocaust."  Students connected with the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County, where they heard the experiences of Mrs. Lily Perry a Holocaust survivor.  Mrs. Perry, a former teacher, commended all the 6th grade students for their knowledge of the Holocaust and their outstanding behavior during the conference.

  • Ms. Mills posing with Mrs. Reid's Kindergarten class.

A goal was set for the annual Scholastic Book Fair and the students at Champ Cooper met the goal.  Ms. Mills dressed up as a scientist, which went with the Scholastic Book Fair Theme, "Story Labratory, Reading gives you Super Power."

  • The Cougar Walk

One of our PTA members, Mrs. Ollie Vignes, wrote a grant that allowed us to purchase and build our own "Cougar Walk" around the playing fields at our school.  It includes a comfortable walking track with some pull-up bars,  jumping boxes, sit-up benches, sitting benches,  push-up bars, and also a new outdoor volleyball court with net.  Our students and teachers would like to send a special thanks to the PTA and Mrs. Vignes for making this project possible!  Our PTA recieved a grant through Lowe's Toolbox for Education.  The PTA would like to thank Lowe's for the $5,000 grant to build our Cougar Walking Trail.  Darrell Raiford (PTA Vice President) spent many hours actually building the track.   We received extra funding for this project through ExxonMobil for Mr. Raiford's volunteer hours.
