TANGIPAHOA PARISH SCHOOL BOARD PROCEEDINGS

 

 

November 7, 2002

 

 

 

The Tangipahoa Parish School Board met in regular session on Thursday, November 7, 2002, at 6:30 p.m., in the School Board Meeting Room, School Board Office, 313 E. Oak St. Amite, Louisiana, with President Al Link presiding.

 

MEMBERS PRESENT:           Tony Paul Ardillo, Jr., Al Link, Maxine Dixon, Sandra Bailey, Carl Bardwell, Donnie Williams, and Robert Caves

 

MEMBERS ABSENT:             Leroy Hart and Jimmy Richardson

                       

            Mr. Robert Potts, newly elected Board Member District B, gave the invocation, and Mr.  Leonard Genco, newly elected Board Member District C, led the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

            Mr. Potts indicated that he had always had an interest in the educational system and he looked forward to serving as a Board Member.

 

            Mr. Genco also indicated that he looked forward to serving the community and he appreciated the assistance that he had received from the staff.

 

            Ms. Tye Foster spoke in public input regarding the PTO at Amite Elementary School. She apprised the Board of  the goals that the PTO had set and some of their parental concerns.

 

            Ms. Michelle Sharp and Mr. Anthony Manzella, Jr., spoke in public input regarding the Band at Loranger High School.

 

It was moved by Mr. Bardwell, seconded by Mrs. Bailey, to approve the Board Minutes of  October 15,  and October 17, 2002 as distributed. Hearing no objection, the motion was adopted, with Mr. Hart  and Mr. Richardson absent.

 

The Board discussed the possible Daily Star over billing. The staff was directed to review the documentation provided by the Daily Star and give the Board a report on the matter.

 

It was moved by Mr. Ardillo, seconded by Ms. Dixon, to approve the Personnel Committee Report of  October 30, 2002, and Addendas  #1, #2, and #3. Hearing no objection, the motion was adopted, with Mr. Hart  and Mr. Richardson absent. Following is the report as approved:

It was moved by Ms. Dixon, seconded by Mr. Williams, to waive the rules to consider items from the Hammond Delegation. Hearing no objection, the motion was adopted, with Mr. Hart  and Mr. Richardson absent.

 

It was moved by Ms. Dixon, seconded by Mr. Williams, to  approve the following items for Hammond High School, from Pay-As-You-Go Funds: purchase of fifty chairs @ $16.10 each, one (1) Digital Camera – not to exceed $1,000.00, Piano Lab- not to exceed $22,000.00, reimburse Hammond High School $2,300.00 for the purchase of an Ice Machine. Approve updating the Hammond Westside Primary Computer Lab in the amount of $14,655.00, from Pay-As-You-Go Funds. Hearing no objection, the motion was adopted, with Mr. Hart  and Mr. Richardson absent.

 

It was moved by Mr. Ardillo, seconded by Mr. Williams to approve the substantial completions listed below:

 

1.                  Door and Hardware replacement and repairs at Perrin Early Learn Center

2.                  Four Classroom Addition and Office Renovations at Independence Elementary

Hearing no objection, the motion was adopted with Mr. Hart  and Mr. Richardson absent.

 

It was moved by Mr. Ardillo, seconded by Mrs. Bailey, to waive the rules to consider an item from the Amite Delegation. Hearing no objection, the motion was adopted, with Mr. Hart and Mr. Richardson absent.

 

It was moved by Mr. Ardillo, seconded by Mrs. Bailey, to approve the substantial completion of the End Zone Bleacher Project at Amite High School. Hearing no objection, the motion was adopted, with Mr. Hart and Mr. Richardson absent.

 

            President Link reminded the Board Members that the Teacher Tenure Hearing would be continued on Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at 5:00 p.m. Other dates to continue the hearing will be discussed at that time.

 

            President Link also requested that information be provided to the Board regarding teacher classroom loads as of October 1, 2002. He shared a letter from a teacher/mentor regarding the mentor program.

 

            President Link indicated that he had  received complaints regarding technology equipment repair. Superintendent Allen explained that Mr. Ragusa had scheduled a presentation  to be presented to him and Mr. Kolwe regarding computer repair. The staff may establish a policy regarding computer repair. The Board will be given a report on this matter.

 

It was moved  by Mrs. Bailey, and seconded by Mr. Bardwell, that the meeting be adjourned. Hearing no objection, the motion was adopted, with Mr. Hart and Mr. Richardson absent. (7:08  p.m.)
